That's a wrap.

There has been rain... And it appears the crew had a long weekend as nothing happened on site on Friday or Monday.

More rain and even hail on Monday night which left some remains in the shade on Tuesday.

But none the less the crew was back at with the tar paper and rain screen.

Soffits in place.

The rain screen finished on the backside.

And then rain screen finished on the south side.

I am thinking that there could be lots going on inside.... But not so much. 

My contractor has been busy working on solutions to the tree vs hydro issue, inspections from the home warranty guys, and sorting out the rock pit where my roof and perimeter drains empty into.

Today the junipers were cut back and I think my contractor said that where the bucket of the backhoe is sitting is where a hydro pole will sit, next to the tree. The wires will then run underground to the house.

The water is still not yet hooked up, but it's closer.

The tar paper is up on the front and the rock pit was finished and buried. I am liking the sunken area now. 

So now I am trying to visualize what the front yard and driveway will look like...wth my new hydro pole. It will look even more different when the deck and stairs are in place.

Now about that tree.

BC Hydro finally opened the book of 'The Tree, The Pole And The House'.....

My contractor called me to say the tree had to go.... No one like to take out big trees. 

A big shade tree for my neighbours....No one likes to piss off the neighbours even before moving in.

Then I am thinking maybe it's worth something... Build something out it.... Firewood....

Below is the view from the corner of my house.

It is a Jack Pine, but it is a nice tree.

Rain screen and soffits done on two of the sides now. And look an outside outlet.

More wood on site for the decking.

Out front the rock pit for the storm drainage is getting ready.

And I will not have a bath tub under the deck... In goes a drain. So now I have a good place to spray off the dive and kayak gear.

And speaking of drains.... inside the plumber has been busy.

Plumbers and electricians sure are messy.

So back in the kitchen you can see the venting in place.

Up and over connecting into the bathroom vent and up out the roof.

Now down in the basement you can see the pipes still need connecting...there is a hole into that vent for when I add the plumbing, and the waste water. Yes it would have been cool to set up a grey water system.... But... 

The rest of the basement is still holding all the siding all painted ready to go. Did I mention we are due for more rain in the next few days. Hopefully doors by the end of next week!!

And then next for the plumber are the water lines and the hot water tank.

Now about that tree....

Here is my shade tree...trees. There is a pine and a really big arbutus tree on the other side of the yard.

 

It does get harder to leave the site everyday as the sun sets later and later....

Can't wait to be relaxing on the deck as the sun sets.

Now about that tree.... My contractor may be able to save the tree. We would have lob off a couple of the lower branches and place a 10 foot (or so)  pole a few feet from the tree. Run the lines to the pole where the metre will sit and then run the lines under ground to the house. It may cost a few extra shekels, but taking the tree down was going cost as well....

Meanwhile back at the cottage by the sea the kids are eager to check out one of the bathroom cabinets!

Waiting for Godot?

Well Easter has come and gone and it's time for things to get moving again.... 

Yesterday I went by the site to see that the house wrapping has begun. It appears that we are waiting on the upstairs doors before the siding can be done. And I think it might be sonetime next week....

And we are waiting for the electrician to finish up. This was yesterday and you can see one box is all done, but many loose wires are still about.

The plumber needs to get back in and start running pipes. We brought over my tub from the neighbour's safe keeping. Thx guys. No pictures on the tub just yet.

And we are waiting for the next load from Rona for the deck. I think it was supposed to come today.

Lotsa waiting!

But none the less the rain screen is going up.

And the soffits on place...

We are waiting for BC Hydro to sort out where the line is going and the fate of the tree.

But the boxes are almost ready and waiting. That's phone and cable below.

I think we will go with a 1/2 deck out back here for me to enjoy my morning coffee on. It will also make it easier to level out the ground a bit.

And we wait.

The doors

Well I will start with the fact that I did not talk with my contractor today, so I do not know what the hydro- tree update story is. 

But oh my goodness I have basement doors! And oh my aren't they gorgeous!!

The painter stayed late to give them a clear coat protector before any rain arrived. 

Now once again... They are double doors so I will not smash them when I bring in my bike, my kayak or my dive gear....

And it looks like the sewer pipe is all connected. The inspector was by and was happy. It's good to keep the inspector happy. 

The water is not quite connected yet. We need the white pipe from the bottom of the above picture hooked into the water below. 

No siding yet..... I think the crew are busy on another job. But the siding is just about done with the first coat of paint so it will go up quickly.

Inside things are closer to be done in the electrical department. It looks like they will put in some cable outlets as well - the yellow cut outs. I suspect this is a good thing, but I will go with cable to house and then wifi to the upstairs. 

Almost done. 

But then again it's Easter weekend. So not much will get done. But that's okay I have friends visiting in town..... It will be a bit longer before people will actually stay with me.

The electrician needs one more day I hear.

Today the panel is in place.

The outside is almost ready. The electrician would prefer the siding to be on before he finishes up. And then there is the question of the path from the pole to the house....

It took the electrician folk (the guy with the ticket, the gal doing all the work and today an apprentice joined in the fun) on site to add a little safety to the site. I used to sit in that opening - the front door!

The painter was gone for the day. I think there is still more siding to paint.

Now here is the shrub that my contractor moved out of the way before he dug a hole looking for the pipe. He did not transplant it though. The shrub did already get run over once by a delivery truck.... so it is under some stress.
