Colour coding..

It does not look like the boys were on site today.... The regular crew.

The painter appears to have finished with the brown window trims and she started the cedar siding.
You like the colours?
The electrical box is not in place yet, but the colour coded wires are collecting...
So upstairs one can see more wires in place.
Red is for the in floor heat. Blue for bedroom and den.
And outside it was my time to get to work. I buried more of the water pipe and put the grass back in place. Not sure if I qualify to be a landscaper?
Time to sit on my bench under my plum tree, listen to the birds and watch the rain roll in....
Okay I mowed some of the grass too. I probably should put a deck out back too... Sometime.

Inspections...

Well lots going on today at the site.
Downstairs out of the on and mostly off again rain the painter is staining the window trim.
Around back my contractor has finally made my ramp easier to walk on!
And inside the electrician and my contractor are busy installing the boxes for switches, plugs, thermostats, fans....
I took off for a couple of hours and by the time I returned the wires were getting rolled out.
The pot lights were in place.
The bathroom fan and lights looking good.
And don't forget the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
It's generally looking like a plate of spaghetti with meatballs.

Downstairs the trim looks done.
Well the first coat....
Outside the ground has been leveled off and the ramp is not so steep anymore.
The water line is attached through to the house.
It's looking like a yard.
My new trench was only partly used today.
With the recent rains the birds were loving my yard.
The usual suspects.. Jays, robins, juncos, flickers.

I hope the trench passed inspection....?

Busy weekend.

It's Sunday evening...
The eve of another great week of construction!
Well this picture was from Friday evening (where I am living) and despite no crew on the building site, the weekend was very busy for me!
First I spent Saturday on ferries, driving and at IKEA and Home Depot picking up fixtures for the bathroom. It was a long day.
On Sunday I put together one cabinet and sorted through my special litter box hiding spot.
Then off to site to drop off a toilet and dig a trench for a water line out to the greenhouse.

You may remember seeing the water lines cut when the hole for the house was dug out. I have the tap out there and I think it makes sense to have water near the garden. I will try some rainwater catchment somewhere I suspect. I chose to dig the trench myself as I did not want the backhoe in near my trees! I forgot to take a picture before covering up (in case rain tonight)
Some friends walked by so I had a bit of a break. We walked around looking at my trees. Saw two these! Ah!

It's wrong, but it's right.

It's not quite lock up yet... Need the doors and the gables finished for that.
But I have windows!

Here is the living room....
Now the picture window was initially supposed to be broken into three separate windows, yet still fixed. Somehow my request was lost in translation. But a mistake that worked out well as the view will be better out this window and it's cheaper. Not all my decisions are good ones.
In the basement I will have a good south facing window (on left) and maybe I will be able to start plants inside here...
The rain screening, siding and window framing is ready to go.
Things are moving along quick quick..

Wet stuff

It is raining again and lots of it... Sigh..

So the basement floor is busy curing and the windows are next. The contractor tells me they could have been delivered on Friday but the window people never phoned to say so. The delivery was supposed this morning, but there was an issue with a truck.  But finally at the end of the day they have arrived.

So you can see the crew did not get far today in prepping the openings...

But at least they are here!

Vertical rain?

It's Monday, time to get back at it....
That said it was my day to sleep in a bit, so I missed the cement truck... oh well.
The deck support pillar was done as well as the other half of the front basement patio walls.
The soon to be sunken front basement patio that is. Backfiill goes in up to the tar on the cement walls.
And of course the basement floor was done...
So, you know the drill, now it dries for a few days.
As it pours rain outside tonight, I hope it's vertical rain.
See it's not really big inside!

Window framing

It is Sunday evening as I post this. It was not a busy week on site. There was rain and my contractor was on a course out of town.... offered by Schluter... the system of waterproofing my shower.
I did stop by throughout the week but it did not look like much was getting done.
But today I checked in and little things did get done at some point.
The pipes were covered over and the floor/ wall edge was taped in anticipation of the cement floor being poured.

If I did one thing right in the design of this house .... it's the placement of this window in my bedroom.
And here are some other shots from the springtime yard....
The cherry tree...
A very small Asian pear...
The beat up apple tree... (The backhoe ripped a few branches off)
This will be busy week on site I am told... windows, electrician, pour the floor, build front deck..
