One down, three to go.

Lots of people on site today. The electrician continues the readiness for the hydro hook up.
I was informed that this is not finished yet..
The wires from the pole were fed inside and connected to my panel though.
And there was more preparation to the pole. They were even doing something on the roof too.
Meanwhile the crew continued the siding on the south side. Yes I thought it was going to rain as well..?
Insulation will have to wait. The drywall fella was on site to take measurements. And the painter was busy doing second brown coats and adding silicone where it should be... On the south side.
For those that wondered... Here a better view of my shed roof.... I wanted it to have that cabin in the woods look. I think we achieved that with the slope of the roof.
And for those that care... It's a 24 x 30 footprint. Inside sq ft is about 664, but I will measure again after drywall. That will be my livable space, downstairs will be a cold room and gear storage.
As I said the siding continued....
And then by the end of the day!! One down three to go!

As promised here is my almost full blooming apple tree out my den window.

Sunny south side

It was supposed to rain today but it turned out to be a great day!

The roofer was on the house, (.....you see what I did there?)
The roof of the deck was completed with peel'n'stick and then shingled. I have no plans for the underside right now. When I am on the deck I think beams look really nice overhead, but the nails are also in plain view.
The hole and vent are in place for the wood stove.
Rain is expected in the next few days.... Which is fine as there is indoor work to be done!
With the 2x8 construction we are putting in R28 or in this case 2x R14.
The R40 in the attic will be Fiberglass ... because it will be sealed in and Roxul is expensive.
So the crew will have lots to do ....
The electrician was on site. I think the pole is done... Albeit hydro power is still needed to the top.
The lines head underground and then to the house... That part still needs work.

But the exciting part was happening on the sunny south side today....
Some trim put in place here...
And then finally we break out the siding!
I stood and watched with a big grin on my face! It was the same grin that is there on a pow day up on the mountain; it was the kind of grin that just doesn't go away quickly.
This is my house!
With the sun moving to the front things look blue... But it's really more of a sage.
The second coat will even out the colour.

I like this shrub... It lives back near my fig tree.
And it is almost blossom time on my apple tree. Maybe a picture tomorrow.

Testing 1,2,3

I showed on site today to see the electrician on site.
He told me I had homework... To call hydro.
The call was made, an account set up and I passed the reference number back to my electrician who does a bunch of paperwork requesting the hook up.
The pole is now ready for power... Which I am sure will still be a little while.
The tree will get a bit more of a hair cut when the lines are ready to come through.
Below you can see that the stair frames are done and stacked up.
The stairs will be a L, down to a landing and then a right turn and down to the ground. The square frame will be a support for the landing.
Now what is going on here.....
This is the water in and drain out area....
But a step inside revealed that some type of water line/pipe was getting tested.
Even the laundry pipes were getting tested.
Up here on the ceiling you can see the baffles are in place.
My contractor is getting the ceiling and roof ready for the wood stove.
Some flowers - a white liliac- escaped the clean up in the far corner where the rocks were moved from.

Lock up baby!

Another productive day on site!
The deck roof is in place albeit not yet shingled and the door is in place too!
Things will look even more different when the stairs leading up are built.
Oh ya, and when the siding is on, when the yard is cleaned up and planted with stuff!
The water is finally hooked up.
The back door is in place as well.
I did not play with it today... But the window on the door has a built in set of blinds... Very cool.
Looking a bit more like a house with the door closed.
But let's go out on the deck.....
This will be a good vantage point to keep an eye on the local deer family.
This is a different brown than the brown downstairs, but I think will probably go nice with the siding.
Inside the plumber was busy again... Putting the water lines in.
This is the shower...
The bathroom sink. That's a drain, so the tap is just plugging the hole me thinks.
The kitchen sink...
Now I see these sitting out... I know what they are having installed them in the attic of my last house.
For those that do not know they are baffles to keep the soffit channels free.
Back down in the basement I can see some more deck getting stained. There are the two front pieces missing, but there will be a back deck as well (not covered).
And I followed all the water lines... Be nice if the hot and cold were colour coded...
As light rain began to fall, I pulled up a travel chair and enjoyed the view whilst not getting rained on!

All decked out.

And now the roof on the deck ....
This is going to be a great place hang out!
When the skies are grey and the sky leaks, I will be dry on my front deck.
Today the plumber brought the pipes up to the main floor...  To the bathroom sink and shower.
For the laundry...
In the kitchen...
And here for the tub...
Oh look the sun is coming back out.
The deck will serve well for watching sunsets. But as you can see here when my walnut tree grows up I will have a nice screen from the neighbours across the street.  At that point I might loose the sunsets or figure out how to trim the top of the tree... I will plan this over a few years and a few drinks.
Yup it's looking good.
