Up at 0730 hrs, packed up, breakfast of croissant, coffee and ready to go with a sandwich and two oranges for lunch by 0830 hrs....
My guide suggested I have food resources today. I wanted to bring wine with my ham and cheese on baguette, but too heavy.
Oh, look Sunday Market setting up.
Found my way back to the Camino. I really enjoyed Ponteverde. It would be nice to spend longer in this city.
Even on foot it's quick to leave the city.
Hello...
By 0900 I stopped for a rest and foot massage. Then I got up from my rock and noticed this way station.
Today was Sunday ... Bike day on the Camino. I think probably about 75 bikes passed me today. I wonder if any of then were the same people. There were only a few woman ... Mostly men in their Tour de France outfits.. Spandex.
I liked this statue.
Today much of the route paralleled the rail line. It was very windy today, and cool the pants and jacket stayed on.
Sometimes on highway...
Well on that little strip of gravel.
Hey I'm walking here...
Okay so I take back all the negative things I said about the signage in Spain.
It was just that area. Today the signage was great. Look here is where you would cross the highway...
More bikes...
Close up of grapes.
Another picture of the mystery stuff. I have learned that it is kale. People make soup from it. It grows high because the leaves have been clipped off. Apparently the chickens like the leaves as well.
So when I was stopped once, a traveller on a bike went by. I mean someone touring. She stopped later and we talked. Her name was Aso.... With a circle over the A to make it sound like eau so. She was Swedish, but lived in the Montreal/ Ottawa area. She spoke English!! And she had much to say! The Camino was definitely therapy ....
She had met Laura from Italy and Patricia from Canada. Did I mention that...? Laura had stayed at Fernada's with a another Patricia from Canada. ....
And there she was... A few years my senior. She was really an American from the Boston area, but calls PEI home. And no she not know Steve!
She walked with poles.
Bikes bikes bikes
We walked together for awhile. Sometimes she walked faster and sometimes I did. .. Well she would just need to stop.
Look wild ferns...
We stopped for coffee. One of the nicest washrooms with a stone wall.
A proper picture..
Right after we finished our coffee, we saw Aso and the German guy having coffee. It sounded like we would all stay in Caldas de Reis so we did not stop. Well I meant the three of us, as this was as far as that Patricia would travel and she headed off to the albergue near Barro.
Back to solo walking. Which was good.
I wonder if it had help growing in a circle?
Aw nature...
I like all the roofs
Hmmm...
The sign says something about a vacation spot. Looks like a great vacation spot I have been to in West Africa- Busua Beach! There is a story there ... Ask me sometime.
A boy in the field.
Lots of dead corn fields today.
Smaller roads...
I am still trying to find the Ikea store...
Here comes the train... It was only 3 cars long.
So the numbers on these markers are not really accurate. I thought they were gps at first. It's just km to the 3rd decimal!
I hope that doesn't get your goat.
This guy was a mountain climber ... Trying to escape.
This is where I am going.... Glad it is open.
Shrooms....
Corn...
Okay this one I took because of the wind mills on high...
.Then I realized the sheep!
More sheep. It was a good day
Back to the highway.
Then through little towns with no names.
This was fun... But my feet were very tired. Where is this town???
This not where I stayed. I was very confused at this point. I walked a ways that way... Did not find the albergue. I continued back on the main way, then saw a sign that said 17 km to an albergue. ... But maybe not the one I had planned to stay at. Then I had to go to the bathroom, I can't think....
Okay found a quiet spot. Then took out the guide book and realized I had about 5 km to go. The german guy passed me. I guess he stopped somewhere. His name is Matthias.
And away he walked.
Nice mix of old and new...
What can you say....!
At this point gravel is painful too.
Cute house... Awfully big though!
Gobble gobble
It's the tropics Gulliver style.
This is what you call aluminum siding.
Finally coming into to Caldas de Reis.
The bikes came as well...
And finally!!!!
Checked in and met an Italian Swiss guy named Matteo. We had dinner together at the restaurant next to the albergue.
And now me and the Matts are sitting at the table each with our own phones. To my defense I at least do not have ear phones in!!
Well it's late and time for bed.
Pondeverde to Caldas de Reis - 23.1 km
