The time changed when I hit the border as Spain is as hour ahead of Portugal. I was reminded yesterday that I do not like getting up before the sun, which was up about 0800 hrs, I think. My sleeping bag was a really nice place and it was hard to get up. With that memory, I was really looking forward to sleeping in today.
But my body only wanted to sleep until about 0900 hrs. It was a rest day and the plan was to stay off my foot... to be a sloth and stay in bed all day.
So between taking more naps, researching shin splints on the internet, applying lotion to my ankle and leg, muscle massage, and stretching, well I did basically take up most of the day.
The internet self diagnosis is that I have the muscular type of shin splints with the tight pain on the outside of my shin. Most pain, however is right at the ankle where my boot makes contact.
I decided to forgo the picture of ankle comparisons. Sorry if you were hoping for that. Suffice to say that my right ankle is a bit of a peg.
I missed my morning coffee, but I got over that. Bread and water... two meals of that and I really was not hungry for more.
I did finally get up and shower. Walked a block to discover I really did stop outside of the Arcade town area and my restaurant is the only one close. With my cushie foam shoes my leg was not so bad. I feel almost better, but my hiking boots will not be so comfortable me thinks. I headed over for a cafe Americano which is indeed a large black coffee, there is no need to ask for no milk.
It was a cloudy overcast day. I am hoping my socks are dry for tomorrow. My room seemed more humid than the hallway. But it seems I have put air conditioning on in my attempts to program 'Dry'. There are good blankets!
I should have eaten something when I went in to the restaurant at about 1530 hrs or so... As now I wait until 2000 hrs which is when dinner starts. How I got food earlier yesterday I am not sure.
I have booked a single hotel room in Santiago close to the city centre, with the assumption that I arrive on Nov 20th and staying three nights. One day to be a sloth, and one day to be a tourist. I can change that tomorrow .. If I need.
I have printed my bus pass to the airport on 23rd, when I head to Barelona.
I have a sore leg and so does Messi.
I will have travelled from Canada to watch Barcelona FC live at home ... But I will not see Messi play. :(
To recap ....
- I have walked for 9 days,
- I have traveled about 176 km
- I have about 77 km to go
- and I suspect it will take me 5 days
My travels have not
been so balanced,
parts very slow,
but it's my Camino
Its food time...
What will I order tonight!
